Get A Second Job

So you want to get a second job? Taking down a second job - and holding it- is the single best way to overcome debt. Most second jobs are not intended to be a replacement for existing income but rather an addition. Prior to accepting a second job, review the contract  with your original employer; there may be certain limitations regarding your employment with competing companies.

If you're serious about taking on a second job, sit down with your family and discuss how this will change the household. For example, your children may have to be more responsible about their chores, and possibly take on additional chores to help cover your absence. Many families struggle during this time, as the lack of parental supervision can cause unforeseen problems. This is why it's important to sit down with your children and explain why you won't be around as much - generally, they will understand provided you take the time to explain it to them.

When searching for a second job, try to pick something that you enjoy. Turning a hobby into an additional income stream will help alleviate the stress associated with the extra hours. No matter how tired I am, there's always a little left to write. What's your passion?

Freelancing is another option that you should consider to get a second job. It provides additional income without the grueling day to day responsibilities a second full time job would entail. However, freelance work is generally not your best bet if you are in need of cash yesterday. If you could use extra income, register yourself at the the two main online freelance websites: Elance and Guru.

No matter how you go about it, a second job will drastically improve your financial situation. It will also add to the day to day stress, and without consulting your family first, can be detrimental to your home more than it helps.
